When using the XenDesktop Setup Wizard to create virtual desktops on Hyper-V, you may not have the option to choose “Microsoft Virtualization” for the Hosting Infrastructure.
Thus far, I have seen two reasons why this would occur:
1. The SCVMM Plug-in has not been loaded on the Citrix Desktop Delivery Controller
To install the SCVMM plug-in on the DDC:
a. Click Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
b. Select Citrix Pool Management and click Change.
c. When the Citrix Pool Management Setup Wizard appears, click Next on the Welcome screen.
d. On the Modify, Repair, or Remove installation screen, select Modify.
e. Click on the Microsoft SCVMM Plug-in icon and select Will be installed on local hard drive. Click Next to continue.
f. Click Install to complete the installation.
2. The SCVMM Management Console has not been installed on the DDC and/or the Provisioning Server.
When running the XenDesktop Setup Wizard, you will be presented the screen below which prompts you to choose your hosting infrastructure.
If the SCVMM Administration Console is not installed on the DDC, you will not be able to choose Microsoft virtualization as the Hosting Infrastructure and the wizard will fail.
If the SCVMM Administration Console is not installed on the Provisioning Server, you will be able to select Microsoft virtualization as the Hosting Infrastructure, but you will not be able to specify the Address of the SCVMM server, and the wizard will fail.
To successfully complete the XenDesktop Setup Wizard when using a Hyper-V Infrastructure, the SCVMM Administration Console needs to be installed on both the DDC and the Provisioning Server.
In fact, on the server to be the DDC, the SCVMM Administration Console should be installed before the XenDesktop DDC server components.
This was really helpful! Much appreciated!
Great Job my friend. You saved me a lot of time!!!! Thank you so much.
